Where Electronic Beats Meet Upcycled Design

Djerba Fest, an electronic music festival, marked my debut as a scenographer. For this first edition, we set out to craft a unique visual journey with three illuminated pathways guiding festival-goers to the main stage, food court, and facilities.

True to the festival’s spirit of reuse and transformation, we hunted down unconventional pieces—like abandoned hotel bathtubs repurposed as seating and even a bus reimagined as a bar. Every element was designed to enhance the experience with creativity and sustainability, breathing new life into the unexpected.

“Retrospective” - Set design l Mohamed Akacha exhibit !

Curated by Archivart gallery.

Mohamed Akacha is a renowned Tunisian painter celebrated for his contributions to abstract and modern art in North Africa. He is particularly known for his vibrant, character-filled pieces that shape dynamic scenes with complex, almost animated or doodle-like imagery.

After extensive discussions with the artist, we decided to create a scenography that subtly hints at his presence. His bold color palette reflects his lively personality, even down to his street-style wardrobe, highlighting his sociable and urban attitude.

The use of RAL 1003 (Safety Yellow) is a nod to the scenography of the Louis Vuitton SS23 PFW show and its late artistic director, Virgil Abloh, tying into the “casual” vibe that’s synonymous with Akacha’s work.

Working within a defined budget and respecting the existing space without altering it, we used wooden battens as an effective way to integrate into the environment. This allowed us to create new surfaces for showcasing his art.

Fabrika festival - Set design

[External structure] - Scaffolding and eucalyptus foliage. Red light bulb for signage
[Stage] - Brick and red polycarbonate

The mission on the project was to use vegetation and bring something industrial as the name of the festival indicates while remaining as minimalist as possible.

How to camouflage the tent used to prevent bad weather?  How to smooth out the ceiling?  How can we use the existing structure with a backdrop that lets the light through? What signage can we use to warn that the stage is on?
This was the problematic of the project.
